Facebooking on the job?
On April 16, TechRepublic polled its 100-member panel of U.S. IT executives and asked, “Should IT block social networking sites?” The jury, made up of the first 12 respondents, came through with eight “No” votes and four “Yes” votes.

This is tragic. The title of the article led me to believe that the witchdoctors were jumping on the mobile bandwagon along the lines of e-sangoma or an e-mchawi. Can you just see the apps for your iphone or andorid though? This app allows you to carry out your hexing.

talking metrics
Day what feels like 13456704043 on trying to get an easier way of tracking client's social engagement. It's got to be easier than this surely. I've been using freebies (Umati loves the freebies)- Google Alerts, PostRank and the other free social networking (sn) tools and I have to say my attention span which is slightly less than a gnat with ADD just about imploded from the sheer info overload.

Voice SMS? I'll pass.
Voice SMS is this feature of the mobile companies- not to be confused with voice mail. With voice mail, you leave a message if the phone number you called is unavailable, but Voice SMS asks you to:-
1. Hang up
2. Re-dial the number
3. Dial *50 and then the number
4. Follow instructions to leave your voice mail
From a logistics perspective, these are three steps too many.

The tools are there, but to truly capture the East African social media space, you first have to know the East African social media space. If you're based in Kampala, and you're looking for the kids from Kampala to know what you're about, it's not enough to have an online presence on blogs that matter in Nairobi, if people in Kampala don't read them!
